National Screening Issue

Posted on:

NHSE (NHS England) has announced today that there has been a national issue that has potentially led to patients not receiving invitations for screening for AAA (abdominal aortic aneurysms,) bowel screening, breast screening and cervical screening.

They are working to ensure that anyone who has missed out will have the ability to have the overdue screening tests.

The total number of patients is 5261 across the whole of England

PATIENTS AFFECTED WILL HAVE BEEN WRITTEN TO BY NHSE DIRECTLY.

IF YOU HAVE NOT RECEIVED A LETTER, IT IS UNLIKELY THAT YOU ARE IN THIS GROUP.

We have not been given details of any patients by NHSE who are overdue screening which leads us to believe that our patients are not affected.

If you have received a letter from NHSE:

  • Cervical screening – please contact reception to book for a cervical smear. Please tell reception that you have received the letter. If you have not received a letter, we are not allowed to perform screening early/if you are not due for your smear as the sample will not be processed.
  • AAA, bowel, breast. You will receive direct communication from the Screening Teams about what will happen next. We don’t have control or input into these systems.

If you feel that you have been missed from screening, please call the national helpline: 0345 877 8962
